Refers to the condition of an inclined soil or rock slopes to withstand or undergo movements. The stability conditions of slopes are subject of study and research in soil mechanics, geotechnical engineering and engineering geology.
Slopes can be stabilized by adding a surface cover onto the slope, excavating and changing (or regrading) the slope geometry, adding support structures to reinforce the slope or using drainage to control the groundwater in slope material.
Images featured below are for the project at 7409 Islington. Slope stability included large steel piles installation, MSE wall and plantation on top of a failed slope with 20-meter height. The project took place on a private property driveway to protect the land and two main water and storm water line for city of Vaughan.
The public utility lines in this private property, were 15 feet under the ground and the slope failure could have had a disastrous consequences. Therefore, the City decided to stabilize the slope to be sure about the safety of the two main utility line that used to serve a vast area of residential properties in wood bridge location.
